『The World by National Geographic 』は、雑誌「National Geographic」の発行元で知られる「National Geographic」協会が制作した世界地図 iPad アプリケーションです。協会が保有する各国の美しい写真を収録し、地図画像の保存／共有も可能です。
起動すると 3D の地球の地形図を表示。
自由に回転・拡大できます。
デフォルトの地形図を含め、3種類の表示に切り替え可能。
ポップアップをタップすると、そのエリアの詳細地図を表示。
「Maps」をタップすると、収録している地図を大陸・タイトル順にさがせます。
また、「Nations」をタップすると世界各国の国旗を表示し、選択した国の地図を英語の情報をあわせて表示します。
拡大できませんが、「National Geographic」らしいクオリティーの高い写真も数点収録されています。
画面右下のアクションボタンをタップして「Share This View」を選択すると、表示中の地図のスナップショットを作成し、Facebook・Twitter・メールで地図画像の共有もできます。地図画像は、フォトライブラリにも保存されます。
